The Government’s flagship digital offering ‘Directgov’ has been launched on the 3G mobile phone platform, in the latest incarnation of the service. The version allows postcode-based searching for local information such as NHS services, legal advice and council services, along with live travel news and other information. The 3G version was developed by Cimex, after the company’s successful development of the service on I-mode and WAP platforms. “Developments in mobile technology provide opportunities for the government to deliver information and services to citizens when they want and how they want it,” said Gill Elderfield, Head of Mobile & TV Product at Directgov. “Cimex has been instrumental in developing a robust, user friendly service for Directgov mobile which will allow us to benefit from 3G technology for the first time.” “We’re only just beginning to realise the potential of mobile technology for public service and Cimex is pleased to be involved with such a progressive project,” added David Hockin, Corporate Director at Cimex. |
