| Lambeth launches mobile job scheme | |
Lambeth Council launched an innovative jobs-by-mobiles programme this month as part of it’s e-government services. The scheme, which is incorporated into the Lambeth website, enables the council to send relevant job information directly to local jobseekers mobiles via SMS.Lambeth Chief Executive Faith Boardman explained the benefits of the scheme, commenting; “We want to promote the skills of local people, and the job matching service offers firstly, an opportunity for more of our residents to work for the council and secondly, an excellent way to engage with the many different communities in the area.' The programme has been developed by Lambeth with the Brixton-based Employment Cafe. Texting job alerts is understood to be a far cheaper way of informing job seekers in comparison to traditional recruitment methods, and is also expected to achieve better results. 'This is a radical new way of engaging with local communities. It's a great example of Lambeth leading the way, using technology to modernise and improve the council,' added Faith Boardman. |
